Dear Liestman Families- Happy New Year!
As we prepare to welcome the 24/25 school year, I find that it is important to begin first with reflection. There are many reasons to celebrate the 23/24 school year- beginning with our families, community, and staff. Liestman is blessed to belong to such a caring, responsive, and responsible school-family community. We collaborated last year in many different ways to support our families, students, and teachers and worked hard to create a safe and welcoming school environment for all. As a result, our students recieved another year of strong academic instruction and social-emotional preparation.
A new year brings along with it new ideas, dreams, and goals. Our district's theme for the new school year is Hollywood- Setting the Stage for Success. When I think of Hollywood, I think of two things: movies and actors. A movie’s theme is important because it unites an audience around universal human experiences such as love, good vs. evil, and sacrifice. Actors and settings are used to bring themes to life. We watch our favorite actors evolve through plots and twists and anxiously wait to see how they react to the challenges that unfold in their journeys. The work of a master screen writer can unite us and can have a profound impact on our personal lives.
Similarly, educators and parents are actors/directors on a stage of school and life. Teachers are responsible for delivering a compelling and engaging academic curriculum. Parents are responsible for delivering an inspiring life, values-based curriculum. Both curriculums matter and have messages of love, hope and perseverance. Both are focused on preparing our children for real-world challenges and opportunities.
I am grateful to serve as your school's principal and to be a part of the Liestman community and look forward to having another successful and safe school year. 24/25 will be Liestman's 47th year of service to the Alief community.

See you soon!
